Everything you put into Patang stays on your phone.

Patang is a money manager made by chandumakes (Chandu), an independent developer in India. There’s no account, no sign-up and no Patang server, and we never see, collect, sell or share your data. This policy explains what Patang does with your information.

What Patang stores, and where

Your expenses, income, accounts, budgets, goals, subscriptions, debts, split expenses and settings are saved only in Patang’s own storage on your phone. They are not uploaded anywhere. If you uninstall Patang or clear its storage, they are deleted, unless you’ve made a backup.

Backups and exports are files you create yourself (Settings → Your data). You choose where to save or send them, for example Google Drive, Files or email. Once you’ve sent a file somewhere, it’s looked after by that app or service, not by Patang.

Permissions, and why Patang asks for them

Patang asks for each permission only when you turn on the feature that needs it, and works without any of them.

SMS (read and receive)

Only if you turn on Bank SMS in Payment detection

Patang reads messages from business senders such as banks (names like VM-HDFCBK) and keeps only those that look like payment alerts. From each alert it uses the amount, who you paid and the bank, to offer to log the payment for you. Messages from people (phone numbers) are never read. Nothing from your SMS leaves your phone.

Notification access

Only if you turn on Payment apps in Payment detection

Patang looks at notifications from a fixed list of payment and banking apps (such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and bank apps) and ignores every other app. It uses the amount and who you paid to offer to log the payment. Nothing leaves your phone.

Microphone

Only when you tap the microphone to log by voice

Patang uses your phone’s speech recognition service to turn what you say into text. If your phone has the offline speech pack installed, this happens on your phone. Otherwise your phone’s speech service (Google) may process the audio as described in Google’s privacy policy. Patang itself does not record, keep or send any audio; it receives only the text.

Notifications

For the reminders and alerts you turn on

To show your daily reminder, renewals, debt payments and budget alerts, and to offer to log a detected payment.

Fingerprint or screen lock

Only if you turn on App lock

To check it’s you when Patang opens. Patang never sees your fingerprint; your phone does the check and tells Patang yes or no.

What Patang doesn’t do

  • No analytics, tracking or advertising.
  • No account, login or bank connection.
  • No selling or sharing of your information with anyone.
  • No access to your contacts, photos, location or files (other than a backup file you pick to restore).

Sharing Patang with a friend

When you tap Send a kite to a friend, Patang opens your phone’s share sheet with a short message and a link to Patang on Google Play. You choose the app and the person; Patang only notes on your phone that you shared, to show your friend’s kite.

Children

Patang is meant for adults managing their own money and isn’t directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If Patang’s handling of your information changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top changed. Since your data never leaves your phone, changes would only ever be about what the app does on your device.
